Vasilis Nikolopoulos
Researcher, Co-Founder & CTO Avokado
Vasilis is a doctoral engineer from NTUA specializing in energy informatics and mathematical algorithms, with 25 years of experience in developing innovative products and services. He successfully transformed his doctoral research into a globally innovative product.
He founded two successful deeptech AI startups, Intelen and Avokado, serving major energy clients in Greece, Europe, and America. His companies focus on the analysis of energy data, artificial intelligence, and the digital interaction between humans and energy consumption. He has collaborated with over 15 utilities across Europe and America in the fields of digital energy, energy savings, and energy customer analytics, and has designed/created four B2B products for the energy sector.
His passion for Energy and the Environment led him to be selected as one of the two National Climate Champions in 2010 by the British Council, representing Greece at the Global Youth Forum on Climate Change in Shanghai, China (Expo2010). He is dedicated to transforming innovative research outcomes into products and services through Technology Transfer using Design Thinking processes, and has received global awards and recognitions in the fields of innovation and new entrepreneurial ideas (US Red Herring, SVASE).
His written work includes a book on networks and over 100 publications and articles on energy, innovation, and technology. He has also been a speaker at major conferences on Technology and Innovation (TedX, SAP Digital, Decentralized, PowerUP EIT).
He also served as a member of the National Council for Competitiveness and Development (NC&CD, Innovation sector) in 2012, was the valedictorian in Electrical Engineering (University of Dundee) with extended postgraduate studies at Imperial College (mathematical control), in (applied mathematics and Computer Science), and at the National Technical University of Athens (PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering). He has dedicated many years to advanced research in the field of Energy Informatics. Additionally, he has attended special courses at Harvard (HarvardX) on Technological Innovation, Energy, and Artificial Intelligence.
